The National Council questioned the Prime Minister the basis to establish three colleges in Eastern Bhutan without conducting feasibility study, yesterday.
Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay said a feasibility study was conducted and Royal University of Bhutan consulted, before planning to set up the colleges
The NC members had also asked if the government held prior consultations with the Royal University of Bhutan.
Lyonchhen said the government decided upon the three new colleges in the East, not to fulfill their promise, but to offer diverse courses to the ever increasing number of students graduating from class 12.
The colleges: Gyalpoizhing College in Monggar, Yonphula College in Trashigang and a college in Trashiyangtse, are to offer courses on social science.
Yonphula College will provide specialized masters courses for teachers, especially in English and Mathematics.
Trashiyangtse’s college will be a Rigzhung institute focused on Zorig Chusum.
The first academic session of the three colleges will begin early next year.
