National Transport Policy to be put in place soonTo overcome the lack of coordination among different agencies, a National Transport Policy will soon be put in place.

Two ministries, information and communications and works and human settlement, are working to formulate the policy.

Works and human settlement ministry’s Secretary, Phuntsho Wangdi said polices, at the moment, are fragmented. He said the Department of Roads takes care of roads and bridges and civil aviation is with the information and communications ministry.

The policy would also address waste of resources and ease traffic congestion.

“We wanted to make an overarching one policy for the government.”

A committee has been formed come up with the draft policy.

During a transport co-ordination meeting held between the two ministries in Thimphu, yesterday, the committee members said they have put up names of two more nominees for the committee.

It would need approval of the Prime Minister for the nominees; Department of Roads’ Director and Department of human settlement’s Director to be part of the committee.
