National Disaster Management Authority put in place

DisasterThe Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, inaugurated the first meeting of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in National Assembly conference hall, today.

Speaking at the inaugural, Lyonchhen said Disaster Management Authority will manage disasters in gewogs, dzongkhags and institutes among others.

The Prime Minister will chair the NDMA. “If necessary plans and regulations will be formulated and monetary grants will also be improvised,” said Lyonchhen.

The Home Minister will be the Vice-Chair. Other members include the Finance Minister, the secretaries of all the Ministries, and Gyalpoi Zimpon. The Head of the National Environment Commission, the Secretary of the Gross National Happiness and the department head of the Disaster Management are also included.

The National Disaster Management Authority Act was passed last year.
