The 109th National Day was celebrated in Trongsa, today. His Majesty The King and His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo graced the occasion. His Royal Highness the Gyalsey, Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen, Their Majesties the Queen Mothers, Members of the Royal Family, and other senior dignitaries were also present.
His Majesty the King was received in a traditional Chipdrel ceremony along with His Royal Highness the Gyalsey and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen.
Thousands of people from Mangde Tsho Zhi and across the nation came together at Sherubling Central School to mark the day.
People from all walks of life presented various cultural programs to celebrate the day.
Apart from the cultural programs, the crowd also had the honor of receiving prizes ranging from power tillers to jersey cows and winnower machines upon winning lucky draws.
As part of the celebration the national Nya-Goe competition was also held declaring Nya-Goe Karma Yoezer from Punakha as the champion.
Later in the afternoon, His Majesty the King granted Tokha and interacted with the people.
The 109thNational Day was observed in Trongsa to mark the significance of the birth of His Royal Highness the Gyalsey, 10th year of His Majesty’s reign and 12th year of His Majesty’s investiture as the Choetse Penlop.
The National day is celebrated annually to pay honor to the first hereditary monarch, Gongsar Ugyen Wangchuck and his contribution to the reunification of Bhutan.
