Hundreds of devotees offered prayers and butter lamps to mark the death anniversary of Zhabdrung NgawangNamgyal, today. All the government offices, institutions and schools remained closed to observe the Zhabdrung Kuchoe.
Zhabdrung Kuchoe is observed on the tenth day of the third Bhutanese month. Zhabdrung Nawang Namgyal entered into meditation when he was 58 for 12 years at the Puna Dewai Chenpoi Phodrang in 1651. Zhabdrung’s death was announced only after 25 years. Until then it was believed that he was meditating.
