The movement of people in Ashikhar village under Dewathang Gewog in Samdrup Jongkhar is restricted after a 30-year-old man returned to the village clandestinely from India through an illegal route along the border. According to the villagers, the man went to India last year. The man was doing some part-time work in India.

The man secretly entered Ashikhar village on Monday by crossing an illegal route along the India-Bhutan border avoiding the patrol team.

His mother and sister informed the local leaders of Dewathang Gewog about him returning to the village from India. The local leaders immediately informed the relevant agencies.

The man and his mother were quarantined on the same day. As of now, both of them tested negative for COVID-19.

According to sources, the man tried to enter the country formally from the India-Bhutan border gate in Samdrup Jongkhar town but officials denied entry as he failed to show documents like an identity card.

Meanwhile, BBS learned that the man does not have a census but the gewog leaders say he is from Ashikhar.

Ashikhar village has six households with about twenty people.
