The monsoon will arrive in the country in the coming week, forecasts the department of Hydro-Met Services. It is slowly moving upward from Myanmar, expecting to reach the Country by Sunday.
The weather forecast said the annual rainfall would be slightly more than last year.
“The annual total forecast this year is predicted to be below normal, at 13 percent and monsoon rain predicted to be 5.1 percent. Now compared to last year we are expecting little higher rainfall,” said Singay Dorji, Chief, Meteorology Division, Dept. of Hydro-Met Services, MoEA.
The department said that the report is based on the seasonal forecast for rainfall in the Country by using the climate predictability tool and statistical analysis.
“We are predicting that the monsoon for 2014 will arrive by June 15 or June 16 most probably. Till now, the monsoon have arrived in Myanmar and stayed there for longer time. Seeing the movement of the monsoon, the monsoon will start from the south of Bhutan like Phuentshogling, Samtse and Gelegphu,” said Sonam Tashi, Weather Forecaster.
From the observational records the highest amount of the monthly total rainfall occurred in July followed by June and August. December records the lowest rainfall.
