Mondakha villagers want their farm road improved

Farm road has finally reached Mondokha village of Doongna Gewog in Chhukha, but the road’s poor condition has the villagers concerned.

It’s not been even a year since the farm road to the village was paved. Though the road is under construction with only the first cutting done, it has benefited the villagers immensely.

But during monsoon, rain renders the road almost impassable.

“The road benefits us but during monsoon, it becomes almost unusable,” Mondakha Tshogpa Ugyen said.

“The drains along the road have not been built properly, which adds to the problem,” he added.

“We are thankful to the government for building the road,” Phuntsho, a villager, said.

“In the past, we had to carry everything on our back and walk for hours. We would be happier if the road condition is improved.”

Doongna Gup Passang said the road is a major issue concerning the people in the village.

“People have been raising the issue in every Gewog Tshogde. We understand their concerns. From Gewog Tshogde, we took the issue to the Dzongkhag Tshogdu and discussed about it several times,” Gup Passang said.

The Dzongkhag Administration says it will undertake rectification works.

Mondakha is 12 kilometers from Doongna Gewog Centre. It is one of the most remote villages in Chhukha.
