The cost to repair Unit III or the third turbine of the 720-megawatt Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Plant in Trongsa amounted to Nu 203 M. The Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), an Indian Company, that constructed and installed the turbines, will pay the bill.
After more than ten months, the third turbine or Unit III resumed operation this month. It was shut down following an electrical fault in one of its parts in September last year.
Officials from the hydropower plants in the country and those from Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) worked together to restore the third unit.
BHEL, an Indian Company, was awarded the contract to construct and install the turbines at MHEP.
The plant has four turbines, producing 180-megawatt of electricity each. Last year, the plant exported electricity worth more than Nu 13bn.
