Man sentenced to six years for embezzlement

Phuentsholing Dungkhag Court sentenced a 32-year-old man to six years in prison for embezzlement, forgery and official misconduct.

The judgement passed on Tuesday also ordered the convict to refund more than Nu 1.3 M to the 54 individuals and business companies.

According to the judgment, the convict from Dagana embezzled the amount from Business Income Tax (BIT) and Personal Income Tax (PIT) while he was working in Phuentshogling Regional Revenue and Customs Office (RRCO) from 2006 to 2010.

He was convicted for fourteen counts of embezzlement, forgery and official misconducts.
