Bumthang district court sentenced a 31-year-old man from Bumthang to 10 years in prison for raping his 17-year-old niece in March this year.
According to the judgment passed today, the man had also raped the girl on two occasions in the past; in 2018 and during the nationwide lockdown last year.
The man is sentenced to 10 years for rape of a child above the age of 12 and two years for incest. But is given a concurrent prison term of 10 years.
The convict will also have to pay a compensation of Nu 45,000 to the victim. The man is the younger brother of the victim’s mother.
