The Tsirang District Court sentenced a 36-year old man to nine years and six months in prison for raping his niece. The verdict was passed on Friday.
The 14-year-old victim, a class six student in Tsirang, was staying with her uncle, the convict, who raped her several times while she was sleeping.
But her uncle, the convict used to beat her when she threatened to inform her parents.
The victim is seven months pregnant. The court has also ordered the convict to pay Nu. 37,500 as compensation for the child. The convict will also have to pay a monthly compensation of Nu.750 from the date the child is born until the child turns 18.
The convict was arrested on March 6, this year, by the police in Tsirang.
The incident took place in October last year.
