Tsirang District Court sentenced a 24-year-old man from Tongsingnang, Tsirangtoe for nine years and six months in prison. He was charged for raping a 15-year-old student.
The convict was also asked to pay Nu.100,000 as compensation to the victim’s family.
The convict’s friend was also given a prison term of three months for failing to report the crime.
The incident took place on September 5, when the minor was returning home from school along with a friend. The man had forcefully taken the girl to a nearby forest and had raped her, according to the verdict.
He was arrested by the police the next day after the incident.
