A 32-year-old man from Dorji Goenpa in Trongsa was mauled to death by a tiger on Sunday. Forest range officials confirmed that the man was mauled by a tiger after examining the body. It was the Royal Bengal Tiger, the only tiger sub-species found in Bhutan.

The incident occurred when the deceased left home at 7 in the morning to look for his ox in the forest nearby his village. When he did not return, the deceased’s family members went to look for him at around 5:30 pm.

By 10 pm, they found him lying dead in the nearby forest. Forestry officials said there was a distance of 17 metres between the place of attack and the place where the body was found.

The deceased is survived by his wife and three children.

This is the first incident of human being attacked by tigers in recent times.
