A 47-year old man lost his life in a motor vehicle accident in Tsirang today. The incident took place at Ragshidrangra in the early morning hours. The deceased had also allegedly set his shop and home on fire and drove off before getting into an accident.

The deceased was a businessman from Dagana residing in Mendralgang. According to sources, the man had set both his house located above the Mendrelgang Primary School and his shop located below the school on fire. The deceased had been living alone at home since his wife and stepdaughter had gone to live at a relative’s place a few days ago following a domestic problem. The stepdaughter had registered a sexual harassment case with the police against him on Tuesday. After their investigation, the police allowed him to stay at home on surety due to ongoing lockdown in the district.

According to the wife, although there wasn’t any major problem later on, the deceased kept nagging the mother and daughter and telling them to leave his home. She said they went to a relative’s home located a few kilometers away. She said her husband called her yesterday morning using a neighbour’s phone and asked them to return. However, she said he threatened to burn down the house and shop if they don’t come. They did not go out of fear.

The police have ruled out any foul play in the man’s death.

Meanwhile, firefighters could not save any belongings from both the house and the shop.
