Police in Bumthang have arrested a 33-year-old man for possessing marijuana at his residence on July 30. Police said they were constantly keeping a watch on the man as he was previously convicted of robbery in Thimphu and Paro.
The officer-in-command, Major Tilak Sharma, said the man might have been illegally transacting the substance to other regions.
Police also suspect that there are also other people involved with him.
Meanwhile, the man will be charged under section 499 of Penal Code of Bhutan for illegal transaction of the banned substances.
After investigation the case will be forwarded to the court.
Another four arrested
Also yesterday, the Police in Bumthang arrested four men in their early twenties for abusing marijuana. The arrest was made following a tip-off.
Police caught them on the way to Chamkhar market in a maruti van. Police raided the van and found marijuana in the car.
Meanwhile, the police said that they are keeping an eye on four students of Jakar Higher Secondary School who are suspected of abusing drugs.
According to 2009 National baseline assessment on drugs by Bhutan Narcotic Control Agency, Bumthang has the fifth highest drug abusers in the country.
