The maintenance of the National Housing Development Corporation (NHDCL) housing colony in Trashi Yangtse began a week ago, much to the relief of the tenants.
There are about 25 residents living in the housing colony. They have been complaining about the poor condition of the apartments, which are about 10 years old.
The residents say with leaking sewerage and cracks in the buildings it has become risky and unhygienic to live in the colony. Due to the prolonged water leakage, the windows and walls of the apartments are damaged.
The residents who spoke to BBS under anonymity say they had informed about the issue to the focal person several times but nothing has been done.
“The leaking water has damaged not only the walls but also our belongings. The veranda of the apartment is also in poor condition,” a resident said.
“Even the electric sockets are broken posing threats especially to the children,” another resident said.
Meanwhile, the residents are now happy with the maintenance works in progress.
