The Losel Rigpai Jungney Lobdra at Bajo Lhakhang in Wangdue Phodrang is now upgraded to a Shedra. Her Majesty the Queen Mother Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, Her Royal Highness Sonam Dechan Wangchuck and Vairotsana Rinpoche Ngawang Jigme Jigten Wangchuck graced the inauguration of the new Shedra yesterday.

Bajo Lhakhang is believed to be the abode of Thangthong Gyalpo. The existing Lhakhang was shifted to the present location during the 15th century.

It is believed that the Lhakhang was originally constructed in the 14th century near the present Bajo town. Till now the Lhakhang was also used as lobdra for the junior monastic studies.

The lobdra has now been shifted to Rada Lhakhang near the Wangdue Dzong and the Shedra will be at Bajo Lhakhang. At present, there are three teachers and 11 students in the Shedra.

“Earlier, we had shedra and lobdra together in the same space with an extended classroom. Now the extended classroom is merged with the existing lobdra under one principal. We want to develop it as purely as lower monastic studies,” Lam Neten Namgay Wangchuk said.

At present, there are no separate classrooms in the new Shedra. However, proposals have been made to construct more infrastructures.
