People of two villages under Khamdang Gewog in Trashiyangtse are accusing the local leaders of failing to construct a farm road, which was promised earlier.
People of two villages, Daka and Dhomshang under Khamdang gewog were promised a farm road in the current five year plan. The survey for the proposed farm road was done in consultation with the people. The villagers also contributed labor for the survey.
But the farm road was constructed through other area and not as initially surveyed and the people of two villages have now been told that the farm road to their villages cannot be constructed in the current plan due to shortage of budget.
And now People are blaming the gewog officials for changing the direction of the farm road.
“We left our land fallow after we were told that we will get a farm road. The survey was also done till Domtshang. Later the road was taken through other area where survey was not done,” said Tendey Zangmo, one of the villagers.
Another villager, Ugyen Wangdi, said they told to come for survey saying we will get a farm road. “We contribute labor for three days initially and later four days to do the survey. Now they are saying we will not get a farm road. It’s not fair.”
Dorji Tshering from Dhomsang said the current farm road benefits Tosedtsho Gewog as well. “But our question is why our gewog budget has to benefit other gewog when our own villages are being left behind.”
According to Khamdang Gup, Ugyen Wangdi, there is no plan to construct a farm road for the two villages in the current plan. He said the survey was done to construct a farm road if they have excess budget in the gewog. “It is true that the survey was done through their village initially. But we did not receive the environment clearance for the farm road saying it will affect environment. There is also an irrigation channel which will be affected. The farm road was later diverted in consultation with the people themselves.”
The villagers are also accusing the current government for failing to live up to their promise. The farm road, according to them was promised to them by their member of parliament.
