LG bye-elections 2020

Besides the Chhoekhor_Tang bye-election in Bumthang, bye-elections for the post of Gup and Tshogpas for the local government was held in five Dzongkhags today. The bye-elections were held after the demise of former local leaders, removed from the office and some with prolonged health issues.

As per the provisional results of the bye-elections, 43-year-old Phub Thinley is the new Gup of Boomdeling Gewog in Trashi Yangtse. He was the lone candidate contesting for the post. He secured 419 Yes and 109 No votes. The former gup was removed from the office following a forgery case.

From the three male candidates contesting for Mangmi in Goenshari Gewog in Punakha, Lhap Tshering is elected as the new Mangmi. He secured 131 votes.

Four new Tshogpas were also elected. Tendel and Tashi Pelden are elected as the new Tshogpas from Balam_Morphu Chiwog under Balam Gewog and Thrinaphu Chiwog under Narang Gewog in Monggar. Each of them secured 142 and 99 Yes votes.

With 251 Yes and 69 No votes, Karma Jurmey is elected as the Tshogpa of Ngangmala_Zorjoog chiwog under Zobel Gewog in Pema Gatshel.

And Krishna Lal Sanyasi is the new Tshogpa of  Peljorling chiwog under Phutengchhu Gewog in Tsirang. the lone candidate secured 125 Yes and 7 No votes.
