Labour ministry will conduct a thorough investigation after Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project Authority’s temporary staff put up complaints saying they were deprived of benefits.
Close to 200 temporary staff, MPHA in Trongsa had recruited since the beginning of the project’s construction in 2012; claim they haven’t been paid their monthly allowance of 135 percent of their salary.
Their salary ranges from Nu 6,000-10,000.
Labour ministry said they have received enough written complaints of labour act’s violation.
The labour act states if the employer assigns the same or similar work for a same wage to the employee employed for a year or more the employee shall be deemed to have been employed under a contract of employment.
According to labour ministry, it means if someone is employed for more than one year in same or similar job the employee shall get all the benefits and perks stated in the labour act.
The Director Finance, Praveen Nandwana, who looks after Punatsangchhu Hydroelectric Project Authority I and II and also MHPA, said similar case has cropped up in PHPA. He said they had then decided to increase the salary of temporary staff.
However, he said they have not discussed about MHPA.
