Kanglung-EducationalHubWorks to develop Kanglung town into an education hub will begin soon, says the Economic Affairs Minister. The government has already identified Kanglung Gewog in Trashigang as an Education Hub.

Development of Kanglung town is long overdue. The town development works were kept on hold for over a decade now.

The country’s peak of learning, Sherubtse College and the Centenary Institute of Education in Yonphoogla are all under Kanglung Gewog. There are also two monastic institutes under the gewog.

With all those institutes combined with its favorable weather condition, suitable location and a domestic airport nearby, Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk said government has identified Kanglung as an educational hub.

He said the town in Kanglung, therefore, would be developed into a town that is suitable for an educational hub.

Lyonpo added that talks are also under way to establish a teacher-training center in Yonphoogla.

The Centenary Institute of Education in Yonphoogla is established in an ex-army camp, which has an area of around 75 acres. With some infrastructure already in place, the Economic Affairs Minister also said it is conducive for a teacher training center to be established as well.

If developed as planned, residents of Kanglung said it would benefit them a lot. Meanwhile, construction in the town area is frozen, causing inconvenience to the residents.
