Access to safe and reliable drinking water supply has been one of the major challenges for people of Kamji in Chhukha. The issue is, however, expected to be resolved once the fifth water project is completed in the district. The De-Suung National Service started their project on Monday and is expected to finish in three months time. It will benefit around 11 households in the area.

With the groundbreaking ceremony conducted, the project brings hope to the people of Bura in Kamji.  People expect the water project to alleviate drinking water shortages that they have been facing every year.

“The moment we heard that the project has been through, we have been discussing the works. We have to bring water from 13 kilometres away. There are only 11 households here. It is as if His Majesty The King came to know of our hardships and initiated the project. We are very grateful,” said Wangdi, from Kamji Bura under Geling Gewog in Chhukha.

“There are 11 households here and if we did it on our own we were worried about how to execute the works, it would also take 2 to 3 years for us to complete the works. But we are ever grateful to His Majesty for initiating the water flagship project. We are also thankful to the youth for volunteering,” added Nima, from the same village.

Under the project, more than 40 DeSuups are going to construct a water tank, a reservoir, install nearly eleven kilometres of main water pipe and distribute pipeline of two kilometres to households. The Ministry of Works and Human Settlement is providing technical support.

“40 of us are here and we are here to help bring water to this village. People here were facing water shortage and I hope we could help them. We will be working here for three months,” said Sangay Thinley, a DeSuup.

The project is worth around Nu 1.5 M. The Government plans to launch similar projects in Paro, Dagana and Pema Gatshel by the end of next month.
