The Jomotshangkha Dungkhag Court, yesterday, sentenced a 35-year-old man from Langchenphu Gewog under Samdrup Jongkhar to five years 11 months and 28 days in prison for breaching the COVID-19 protocol along the border.
Border patrolling team apprehended the man trying to enter the country on October 1 after visiting his sister who is married to an Indian national at Kumboholi village in Assam.
The man was then kept in a quarantine facility for 21 days. His case was forwarded to the court after he tested negative for COVID-19 on RT-PCR.
