Bhutan’s consumer inflation continued to decrease reaching 3.1 percent in August, this year. Inflation fell in both domestic and imported category. Imported inflation however fell by a bigger margin compared to domestic.
NSB officials clarified, a decrease in inflation did not necessarily mean decrease in actual prices of goods and services but a decrease in the rate of increase.
Compared to July, imported non-food commodities deflated by 0.24 in August. This means, prices of goods and services registered an actual decrease.
The decrease in inflation was contributed mostly by decrease in global crude oil prices and improved monsoon this year that led to improved food production.
