An Indian man, in his fifties, is in police custody for attempting to smuggle gold. Customs officials from Paro International Airport apprehended the man Wednesday, last week.
The suspect is said to have flown in from the Indian city of Kolkata carrying around 1,100 grams of gold.
Eleven gold bars, each weighing 100 grams, were discovered hidden inside the man’s belt. Officials had brought the man in for inspection after detecting his suspicious behavior at the airport
The seized gold has been handed over to Royal Monetary Authority (RMA).
As per the rules, an individual can bring in a maximum of 50 grams of gold freely.
Permission from the RMA and duty taxes has to be paid if one is carrying more than the permissible quantity.
