Special-Needs-children-Inclusive-Education-SamtseEducationists say the answer to one of the equitable ways for persons living with disabilities, especially the children, is the promotion of inclusive education in Bhutan. This concept focuses on the abilities of children with Special Needs- be it academic or social affairs; overall it creates a conducive environment for learning.

Tendruk Higher Secondary School in Samtse is one of the few schools in the country that has accepted and recognized children with special needs. In 2010, the School opened up the concept of Inclusive Education which generally promotes meaningful learning opportunities to all children, including those with disabilities.

In the last few years, most of the students with special needs have come from nearby schools where the facility is lacking. And most of them said their learning abilities have improved after coming to Tendruk School.

However, there are challenges, especially in a place like Tendruk, which is remote and most of these students come from economically disadvantaged background.

But in last few years, the school has seen more and more support from the community

Currently, the school has 79 children with special needs and more than 60 percent of these children have learning disability.
