Her Royal Highness Ashi Kesang Wangmo Wangchuck launched the Palliative care Service Package today. The launch marks a key milestone in the collaboration between traditional and allopathic medicine in the country.
Palliative care is a specialised medical treatment for people living with a serious illness to improve the quality of life. The team comprising of Drungtsho and Menpas from National Traditional Medicine along with staff from the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital will offer palliative care services to the terminally-ill patients.
It has been found that many patients opt for traditional medicine for post-treatment therapies after going through major surgeries. Traditional medicine has proven to be effective for both physical and mental relaxation. Thus the integration of traditional medicine with palliative care treatment can be an alternative choice of care for the patients.
Traditional therapies such as acupuncture, massage, hot and cold compression, cupping, moxa, and trigger release will be offered to patients during and post-cancer treatments through the package.
Apart from traditional medical therapies, the package also consists of mental coaching based on Buddhist philosophies and Zhey Ney (meditation) to calm one’s mind.
