His Majesty the King granted an audience to the Indian Foreign Secretary, Dr. S Jaishankar, yesterday.
This is Dr. Jaishankar’s first official visit abroad after assuming the post of Foreign Secretary in January this year. Prior to his current appointment, he served as the Indian Ambassador to the US.
He also received an audience from His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.
Dr. Jaishankar has more than three decades of diplomatic experience. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1977. The Secretary left for India, today.
Dr. S Jaishankar also met with the Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay. Lyonchhen said India is playing a leadership role in the SAARC region and added there is a renewed sense of optimism in the region.
Lyonchhen thanked the government of India for continuously supporting Bhutan in its development activities. Dr. Jaishankar assured Lyonchhen on Indian’s consistent support in Bhutan’s development activities. Lyonchhen and Foreign Secretary also discussed Hydropower, e-library and motor vehicle agreement.
