His Majesty confers Dakyen to the Speaker

His Majesty grants Dakyen to Speaker.His Majesty the King conferred Dakyen to the newly elected Speaker of the National Assembly in the throne room of Tashichhodzong, this morning.

Speaker- Jigme ZangpoJigme Zangpo, 63, was elected as the Speaker of Assembly at the first National Assembly sitting of the 2nd Parliament on August 2.

The Speaker, who is from Drepong in Monggar, has a master’s degree in education from University of Brunswick in Canada. He served for more than 40 years in the government in various positions including teacher, dzongda, and secretary of the National Assembly Secretariat and High Court Drangpon.

He retired and was living as a farmer before joining politics.
