His Holiness the Je Khenpo is presiding over a series of rituals and prayers dedicated to late Je Thrizur, Tenzin Doendrup’s Parinirvana. The month-long ceremony is also to avert the unpredictable occurrence of COVID-19 in the country.
The rituals began yesterday at the main temple of Tago Dorden Tashithang Buddhist University in Thimphu.
The month-long ceremony began with His Holiness presiding over Chenrizig Drubchen, the great sadhana of Avalokiteshvara.
“His Holiness has commanded and reminded us that in view of the current situation of COVID-19 in the country, it is of utmost importance to conduct kurim. Moreover, the ritual is also being conducted in memory of the late 68th Je Khenpo Chabje Thrizur Tenzin Doendrup,” said Sangay Dorji, the Laytshog Lopen of the Central Monastic Body.
The prayers and rituals for late Je Thrizur and, Kurim for the country’s peace and prosperity and its people’s wellbeing amid the COVID-19 pandemic will be conducted simultaneously for the next 15 days. It will be followed by a series of rituals for the welfare of elderly people and the nation as a whole.
However, the Laytshog Lopen, on behalf of His Holiness the Je Khenpo, advised devotees not to visit the Lhakhang where the prayer ceremonies are being conducted.
“There are chances of people coming to offer their prayers as we conduct such rituals which are presided over by the Je Khenpo. However, keeping in mind the physical distancing measures to prevent contracting Coronavirus, refrain yourselves from coming here to offer prayers. Moreover, His Holiness the Je Khenpo has also commanded to minimise needless gatherings as much as possible,” added the Laytshog Lopen.
His Holiness the Je Khenpo will personally lead all the prayers and rituals till the end.
