His Holiness the Je Khenpo appointed 57–year-old Khenpo Tshewang Sonam from Ura as the new Lam of Tharpaling Monastery in Bumthang. His Holiness awarded Tashi Lekdhar to the new Lam in Tashichhodzong this morning.
Lam Tshewang is the 9th Lam of the Tharpaling Monastery.
Prior to his current appointment, the Lam spent over three and a half years in spiritual retreat.
He served as Khenpo at Mysore in India and Principal at Palyul Goenpa in Tibet. While in Tibet, the Lam received religious teachings from Tibetan scholars. Lam also received religious teachings from various renowned Bhutanese religious figures including the 67th Je Khenpo Nyizer Truelku Thinley Lhendrup.
