Access to healthcare services will be much easier and convenient for the residents of Kamji under Geling Gewog in Chhukha during the upcoming Five-Year-Plan (FYP) period.
The recently convened Dzongkhag Tshogdu (DT) rubber-stamped the decision to construct a Basic Health Unit (BHU) in Kamji.
Currently, the place doesn’t have a healthcare centre to cater to growing population. People have to travel to Phuentshogling and Gaeddu for medical checkups.
The Geling Gup, Phub Dorji highlighted the issue in the DT and said, “there are nearly a thousand students studying in the central school and during summer, many of them get sick. In such circumstances, students have to either visit Phuentshogling Hospital or Gaeddu Hospital and arranging vehicles is difficult.”
After citing all these difficulties, the gup proposed the house to make serious move to address the matter.
To this, the Dzongkhag Health Officer, Gopal Hingmang said, “Realising the difficulties faced by the residents and students, we discussed the issue with the Planning Officer and then kept some fund to build BHU grade II. We want to start the construction in first phase of 12th FYP.”
The dzongkhag is working on land acquisition, designs and cost estimation to build the BHU. The construction is highly likely to begin in 2019-20 financial year of 12th plan. Kamji is almost 25km away from Phuentshogling towards Thimphu.
