The health ministry received the first consignment of essential medicines weighing 35,000 kilograms from the government of Bangladesh at the Burimari land port today.
Essential medicines refer to those that satisfy the priority health care needs of the population.
A total of 258 essential medicines will be delivered to Bhutan this year.
The remaining consignment will be delivered in the same manner in two phases in October and November.
Bhutan requested for the supply of these medicines for a year during Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s state visit to the country last year.
