Heavy rain accompanied with hailstorms and strong winds in the past two days has affected over 100 households in Samtse. Damaged houses, crops and vegetables, and temporary sheds were reported in almost all 15 gewogs of the district. However, there are no reports of human or livestock casualties as of yet.
Yoeseltse Gewog was one of the severely affected gewogs with 57 households from three chiwogs reporting damages to their roof by the hailstorm.
According to a disaster report submitted by the gewog, the hailstorm started at around 7:30 PM yesterday. The report stated the hailstorm’s strong wind lasted for almost an hour damaging CGI sheets roofs of many houses.
Likewise, in Phuentshogpelri Gewog, the roofs of about 15 households in Goenpakha and Jangchholing villages were severely damaged by the hailstorm yesterday.
The strong wind also blew off the roofs of some houses in Peldenling, Dumshingang and Nyoenpaling villages in Phuentshogpelri Gewog.
And in Dumtoed Gewog, the roofs of six semi-permanent houses were partially damaged by hailstorms.
Likewise, one of the farthest gewogs in Samtse, Norgaygang Gewog, also reported five households whose roofs were either blown away or damaged by the hailstorm.
Samtse Gewog also reported two cases of roofs damaged by the hailstorm in Dewathang village. The roof of a temporary house in Gawadug village was also blown away.
And in Tading and Namgyalchhoeling Gewog, several households of reported severe damage to crops like maize and other vegetables.
For now, all 15 gewogs are collecting details from the affected households and preparing disaster reports for compensation and other aids.
