A student in one of the schools in Haa was detected with COVID-19, today. The Dzongkhag COVID-19 Task Force declared Haa town, Betso, and Tsiloongkha villages under Uesu Gewog Red Zone.

With this, movement of vehicles and people in the areas is restricted, starting today. Likewise, the school is also under self-containment. Movement in and out of the school is restricted.

The student, from Besto, is the primary contact of a positive case in Paro. He travelled to Paro on the 12th of December during the Lomba and stayed there for a week. Upon returning, he attended classes for a half-day on 21st December, before being traced as a primary contact.

His family members and five primary contacts have been quarantined, while all his classmates are isolated in a hostel.

Haa Dzongdag Kinzang Dorji said they have assured the parents and the infected student their full support.

The district task force is imposing stricter restrictions in the red zone. Issuance of Movement Pass has been suspended.

‘‘We have to trace all contacts of the positive case and test them. The restriction will not be lifted until the full assessment is complete,’’ the Dzongdag said.

The essentials distribution in the zone will be carried out by the Dzongkhag Essential Distribution Committee.

Meanwhile, over 4,500 people travelled to Haa from Paro and Thimphu since 7th December. Over 12,000 people have been tested so far.
