From now on, 13 Goenpas which were identified as Gyanzin Dratshang in 2009, will function as any other monastic schools. The first ever meeting between His Holiness the Je Khenpo and the principals of 13 Gyanzin Dratshangs was held on Monday, in Autsho under Lhuentse.
The meeting decided that 13 Gyanzin Dratshangs should have a maximum of 30 monks each. They are to receive a stipend of Nu. 1,000 each, every month.
This would also mean Goenpas which are now identified as Gyanzin Dratshangs will have regular classes and exams. It is also expected to discourage monks from leaving the Goenpa.
The 13 Gyanzin Dratshangs are located in Thimphu, Chhukha, Wangdue Phodrang, Lhuentse, Tsirang, Trashigang and Trashi Yangtse.
