KanglungRape

A 76-year-old man allegedly raped his 14-year old granddaughter, who is physically and mentally challenged, in Kanglung in Trashigang, say the police.

He was detained by the police yesterday.

The Kanglung Gewog Administration had reported the incident to the police.

The girl, who lives with her mother and grandfather, is believed to have been raped repeatedly by the grandfather.

The girl is under the care of Draktsho Vocational Training Centre in Rongthung in Kanglung Gewog, now.

In another case, the Paro Police detained a man, in his forties, for alleged sexual harassment and molestation of a nine-year-old girl.

The suspect works as a cook in the same school where the girl studies. Police say the man was booked for rape but that was ruled out after the medical examination.

The incident took place on September 21.

The girl, who stays in the school hostel, had gone to the cook to use his cell phone to call her mother. The man had then taken her inside and molested her.

Our reporter, Yeshey Gyeltshen, says many worried parents turned up in the school to question the school authorities about the safety of their children.
