The government says they will support Bhutanese residing in countries that are in lockdown through all possible means. The support, Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering shared would also be offered financially if the situation demands.

“There will be Bhutanese stranded in countries that have gone under lockdown. For those, we cannot do much to help. But they should not be concerned as it is for their own safety and they won’t be kept there forever. We have already informed everyone to contact relevant offices such as respective embassies and PMO if problems and issues arise. I know some of you are struggling to even make ends meet during such times. The government will have to finance those in need of genuine help such as paying their stipends in advance. We are currently discussing these subjects,” said Dr Lotay Tshering, the Prime Minister.

Lyonchhen also added that tourists that are still here in Bhutan are also being taken care of during such times:

“The government is also helping tourists that are still in the country. We have also fully refunded those tourists that booked their stay here in advance. For those that are here, if they have to spend on their personal matters, we don’t have a say but we are supporting few that needs legitimate help.”
