GoI releases cheque worth Nu 1,9 BThe Government of India (GoI) released a cheque worth Nu 1.9 B for Bhutan’s Project Tied Assistance Projects and Small Development Projects.

Indian embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission, Bishwadip Dey handed over the cheque to Gross National Happiness Commission’s officiating Secretary, Thinley Namgyel in Thimphu, yesterday.

The funds will be used for the reconstruction of Wangdue Phodrang Dzong, expansion of Paro Airport, and upgrading Simtokha-Wangdue Highway and several other roads.

It will also cover urban infrastructure development in Kanglung under Trashigang, conservation of Phajoding Lhakhang, and development of Infrastructure and teaching in colleges , among others.

The Government of India has committed Nu 45 B for the 11th Five Year Plan.
