KangparaFarmRoadThe Prime Minister Jigmi Y. Thinley said the government should give priority to those gewogs that have least number of farm roads during the 11th Five Year Plan. He was speaking to the people of Kangpara Gewog under Trashigang Dzongkhag.

Kangpara is one of the least developed gewogs under Trashigang. Of the five villages under Kangpara, four chiwogs, Pasaphu, Zordhung, Lamigoenpa and Thelphu do not have access to road.

Even the gewog was connected by a farm road till the gewog center only recently.

The 38 kilometer Kharungla-Kangpara farm road was constructed at a cost of about Nu.3 million. The high cost has been attributed to difficult terrain that had to be chipped through to accommodate a road.

The farm road has already started benefiting the people. “We had to walk for days before but now it is much easier,” said Sonam Tshering from Kangpara. It took them two days to reach Wamrong when they had no farm road but now it takes the villagers barely an hour to reach Wamrong.

The construction of the farm road was funded by Asian Development Bank and the government. Kangpara Gewog has more than 450 households with a population of more than 4,400 people.
