Samtse Police are investigating a drowning case that killed a 13-year-old girl on Tuesday. The deceased is a class IV student in one of the schools in Samtse. According to police, the incident happened along the Diana river during a farewell picnic for a teacher.
Seven students along with three teachers and a gewog official were swimming in a man-made pond that was about 1.5 meters in depth. According to the statements to the police, during the mishap, the deceased was once seen going out of the pond for toilet and returned after 15 minutes. Just when they were about to leave, the group noticed one of them was missing. Upon searching, the girl was found drowned in the artificial pond. She was immediately taken to Samtse Hospital, which then referred the case to JDWNRH. However, the girl was declared dead on the way. As per the initial joint investigation, foul play has been ruled out. However, the case is still under investigation.
