Gelephu will soon have a dry port with cold storage facilities, warehouse and transhipment areas. This is to facilitate trade and enhance the export and import of goods. The ground-breaking ceremony was held yesterday. Once complete, the dry port will benefit the people of the central, eastern and southern districts.
The dry port will be constructed on about 27 acres of land near Gelephu Domestic Airport. Once complete, the facility will have a warehouse, cold storage, load transhipment area, dedicated driver dormitory and custom offices.
The facility is expected to facilitate cross-border trade through improved cargo handling services and bring economic benefits.
The dry port is being constructed with around Nu 880 M.
The project is being implemented with financial support from the Government of India. It is expected to be complete by end of 2024.
