Officials on patrol duty have been volunteering to guard the southern borders and protecting the residents amid the pandemic, be it under the scorching summer sun or the rain. But without a proper security patrolling shed, it’s been difficult for them. However, the recent Gelephu Thromde Tshogde approved the construction of six security patrol sheds at six Demkhongs.

When residents retire to an early night, security personnel and desuups come out to ensure their security in the town. They come out for daily patrolling of the town and its periphery. And with these responsibilities, the requirement for a proper resting shed has become important.

“During the daytime, it is very hot. We cannot bear the heat making rounds in the town area. We get tired. Having an access to a rest room would be convenient for us,” said Dechen, a Desuup in Gelephu.

“Rest room has become essential because we cannot stay in open space due to the especially during sunny days,” said Sonam Choden, another Desuup.

Considering their situation, the Thromde Thuemi put up the matter to the recent Thromde Tshogde.

“If Thromde could initiate making a resting place for the patrolling team. This would be really benefit them. Crime rate under Thromde area has reduced drastically compared to the past. Thanks to their patrolling efforts. If we do not and can’t take care of their convenience of giving them a resting place, then I am afraid that the crime rates would increase again,” said Lok Bdr. Chhetri, Jampeling Thuemi under Gelephu Thromde.

“Canopy at each Demkhong would be of immense benefit. I have seen them taking rest near the resident’s balcony during night. And it’s inconvenient for them staying near the road as well. That’s why a canopy for them has become a need,” echoed Chimi, Rabdeling Thuemi.

“They work to keep Thromde area and its people safe. It is the responsibility of the Thromde to provide them with the facility. So, we have approved a resting shed each at six demkhongs for the security personnel, police and Desuups,” said Tshering Norbu, Thrompon.

The construction of the patrolling shed will begin next year. There are about 10,000 people residing in the six Demkhongs of Gelephu thromde.
