Gelegphu’s locals question FM on border road conditionPoor road condition from Samthaibari in Assam to Gelegphu border gate could increase the risk of abduction; the business community of Gelegphu raised the concern to the foreign minister, Rinzin Dorje.

The minister was speaking to the members of the business community of Shompangkha Constituency in Sarpang Dzongkhag.

Bhutanese people use the 40-kilometre when they have to get from one border town to another. The road is dusty and potholes-ridden.

“There is no pressure from our government regarding the 40 kilometre road from Samthaibari till here. From the Indian side too, they were supposed to maintain 25 kilometres but they have not finished 15 to 16 kilometres,” said a Businessman in Gelegphu, Ugyen Rabten.

The Foreign Minister informed the meeting that the issue is being discussed with the Indian government. “And hopefully works will start soon.”

Lyonpo is on a two-week tour to Sarpang and Zhemgang Dzongkhags.
