Gelegphu FCB gearing up to produce 1000 metric tons of rice

Gelegphu FCB gearing up to produce 1000 metric tons of riceThe Food Corporation of Bhutan Office in Gelegphu is gearing up to produce 1000 metric tons of rice, as per the agreement signed with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests.

With the paddy harvest season over, the FCB office in Gelegphu has begun collecting rice grains from the farmers.

The FCB has made arrangements with farmers. The farmers are given interest-free loan or necessary goods like food items during paddy cultivation.

In return, the farmers give rice grains to the FCB after the harvest. Production started in mid December. So far, 60,000 kilograms of rice has been produced.Gelegphu FCB gearing up to produce 1000 metric tons of rice-

The FCB has to produce, another 940,000 kilograms of rice in the coming months to achieve its target of producing one million kilograms of rice every year for the next five years.

The agreement was made with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests to achieve the government’s goal of self sufficiency in rice. The rice will be available for sale all over the country.

The mill in Chhuzaggang has the capacity to remove the chaff of 1500 kilograms of grains of rice per hour.
