It has been five days now since the people of Gasa Dzongkhag have been living in darkness, with no electricity supply. The electricity supply was disrupted by the landslide near Damji last week. The landslide washed away at least five electricity poles causing a power blackout.
The power blackout has hampered various developmental activities and official works. Most of the residents said, it has become difficult to even carry out basic household chores. In a telephone interview, the Principal of the Gasa Primary School, Pema Dorji, said the power outage has caused lots of inconveniences.
“Those who are not having the gas cylinder, they suffering a lot especially the workers who depends rice cooker, curry cooker.”
He added various other developmental activities have also been affected as the payments for contractors could not be made on time. It has also become difficult to access some of the administration records that have been stored in computers.
Meanwhile, the local residents are expecting the problem to be solved by tomorrow.
Gasa Dzongkhag first received electricity supply in 2007.
