gasa-dzong-renovation-faces-shortage-of-skilled-masons  Renovation of Gasa Trashi Thongmoen Dzong has not been able to attract skilled masons. The Project Manager, Kinley Gyeltshen said the masons did not want to work in a remote place.

He said they have 25 masons of which only five fall under ‘grade one’.

“We have sent out advertisements but the response has been poor,” said Kinley Gyeltshen.

He said they do not want to compromise on the quality and that the five masons can lead.gasa-dzong-renovation-faces-shortage-of-skilled-masons

Some 160 workers are trying to renovate the dzong to its former glory. It is being built with locally available raw materials to keep the traditional architectural design intact.

The renovation began in March 2014 and will be completed by June 2018.

The project is worth over Nu 166 M with the government of India committing Nu 100 M.

The dzong was built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel in 1648.
