The National Sub-Highway from Punakha reached Gasa in 2011. The 74-kilometre highway was constructed at several intervals. The road has decreased travel-time between the two dzongkhags from two days to only three hours. Horses that were, initially, the only mode of transport have given way to cars.
Now, Gasa will be connected to Laya by a 26 kilometre road. Two kilometres have been completed already. At least 10 kilometres of the total stretch is supposed to be completed within the Tenth Five Year Plan. The remaining 16 kilometres will be constructed under the Eleventh Five Year Plan.
A 13 million ngultrum budget has been set aside for the realisation of the 10 kilometre stretch
