Four men aged between 20 and 30 years have been arrested for stealing cattle in Wangdue Phodrang. Two were arrested on Saturday following a complaint from Bjena Gewog and the other two were arrested yesterday. They are from Trashigang but have been working in Thimphu.
Upon interrogation, they admitted to stealing and slaughtering four cattle and a yak. Police found about 55 kilogrammes of meat dried in the forest and an animal carcass at the scene.
According to the police, the suspects sold some meat to local meat shops. The suspects will be charged with larceny and malicious mischief. Since January, three gewogs have reported nine missing cattle.
